Submitted by Emily G. Lloyd on

Tomas Madrigal, a PhD candidate at UC Santa Barbara who works with migrant farm workers, and Maru Mora Villapando of the Northwest Detention Center Resistance and Latino Advocacy, LLC, came to speak to Professor Maya Smith's French 212 "Immigrant Cultural Production" course this May 2015. Their presentation revolved around the struggle of the NWDC Resistance at the Tacoma Detention Center here in WA. Through this presentation, students in French 212 learned of this local struggle and were able to compare this to experiences of those they are reading about through various course texts.
