Community Outreach

FIS places a high priority on outreach to the Northwest community. Our advisory board and departmental benefactors include distinguished representatives of the regional French and Italian communities who participate in planning and supporting activities. We regularly schedule lectures, conferences, and film series open to the public, as well as workshops for K-12 teachers. We also have assisted local high schools with curriculum development.

Italian Studies Advisory Board

The Italian Studies Advisory Board celebrates the Italian language and culture, ties the University of Washington's Italian programs to communities outside the university, raises support and funds for the Italian Studies Program, including scholarships for study abroad, and ensures that future generations in the Northwest will be able to learn of Italy and its heritage. Visit the Italian Studies Advisory Board page to learn about these opportunities.

Friends of French Studies

Our faculty work closely with Cultural Services of the French Consulate in San Francisco and are actively involved in local organizations such as the French-American Chamber of Commerce, the Alliance Française, the Seattle-Nantes Sister City Association, and the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF)
