FIS Assistant Professor Maya Smith received a UW Royalty Research Fund Scholar Award to work on her project, "Senegal Abroad: An Exploration of Linguistic Borders, Cultural Imaginaries, and Identity Construction.” Since 1994, the RRF Scholar program has provided faculty with a quarter in which they do not teach but rather can focus on their research. During her time as an RRF Scholar, Maya will assemble and edit chapters of her book manuscript, which she hopes to publish next year.
