Nate Sander, one of the creators of "In Search of Nabad," a documentary film about Somali immigrants in Seattle, came to speak to the French 499 Qualitative Research Methods course on Wednesday, May 21, 2014. After screening the film, students asked Nate questions about the process: what was the genesis for the film, how did they gain access to the research site, how did they decide what to include in the film, what difficulties did they have in creating this documentary, how did the people they interview receive their work? Students then discussed
their own research projects and thought about how the process of documentary film-making intersects with the research they are
currently conducting.
