The UW Rome Center's Scholars Abroad program was recently featured in an article in the L'Italo Americano newspaper, a publication serving the Italian-American community throughout the United States. In the article, author Rita Cipalla discusses her time in the inaugural program in December 2025. From introductory Italian courses to guides tours to the ruins of Palatine, students explored Rome while immersing themselves in Italian culture.
The Scholars Abroad programs offer learners of all ages the chance to study abroad in Italy's capital. While on Scholars Abroad, students immerse themselves in Rome's rich culture and vibrant daily life. Taught by UW Rome Center instructors, courses take place both in the classroom and at cultural sites throughout the city. The next two programs run June 28-July 4, 2026 (Summer-A Term 2026) “Gardens of Rome: Art, Nature and Urban Space” and July 5-11, 2026 (Summer-B Term 2026), “Hidden Rome: Neighborhoods, Culture, and Daily Life”. At the end of the year, Scholars Abroad will also be running two programs, “Politics and Power in Italy: From Empire to Fascism and Beyond” December 6-12, 2026 (Autumn Term 2026) and “UW Scholars Abroad: The Centenarians: A Food Studies Perspective on Mediterranean Lifestyle and Longevity” December 13-19, 2026 (Winter Term 2026).
