International exchanges are part of our departmental mission, and we welcome applications from we welcome applications from scholars from other institutions who wish to be affiliated with our department for a determined period of time. Our Visiting Scholar program requires that the applicant have a Ph.D. or equivalent and hold an academic post at another institution. If you meet the qualifications, we would be happy to consider your request after reviewing a recent publication and a brief statement outlining your research plans while in residence at the UW.
The Department provides no funds for Visiting Scholars and requires that they provide evidence of sufficient funding to cover travel costs and living expenses while at UW.
Visiting Scholars from abroad, after being accepted, are required to pay the University of Washington's $213 (U.S.) cost of visa processing for the Visiting Scholar and for each family member who requires a visa. Also, Visiting Scholars must pay an additional $180 SEVIS fee and any other fees charged by the U.S. consulate. These costs are subject to change.
Do not send any money until we ask you to. Please send your publication, statement of research plans, and Curriculum vitae (C.V.) to the Department Chair at the email address firstname.lastname@example.org. Please use the subject line: "Visiting Scholar program (for dept chair)".
As a Visiting Scholar you will be able to attend all the Department's events and have free use of the University's library. It is unlikely, however, that we would be able to provide you with your own desk.
Visiting Scholars are invited to give a public presentation on their research while in residence.
