Alexandra Parfitt holds a B.A. in Germanic Studies from the University of Chicago and a PhD in Comparative Literature from Yale University. Her dissertation examines the impact of educational discourse on both novels for children and realist texts by Balzac, Stendhal, and Flaubert. In her current project, “Good Reads: Novels for Girls in Nineteenth-Century France,” she traces how novels for girls redefined womanhood in modern France.
