Demons, Werewolves, Shape shifters, and other Marvelous Creatures in the Middle Ages

French medieval stories are full of marvelous creatures: werewolves, shape shifters, magical beasts, demons, and moving statues. Such representations still play an important role in contemporary literature and film; Harry Potter being a prime example. Together, we will try to understand why this type of stories persisted as a mode of expression across many historical periods, and why it still has relevance for 21st century readers and viewers.
